Moving to a new place can be an extremely stressful process, and the mess is one of the worst parts. The mess of moving out is bad enough, and the prospect of cleaning the new space can be daunting. Thankfully, there are cleaning services like Dirty Deeds on the east coast of Florida that specialize in the move-in cleaning process. However, even if you don’t use a cleaning service, you can still enjoy these move-in cleaning tips. Whether it’s a new office space, a warehouse for your business, or an apartment, you will be prepared to move in by following these steps.

Step 1: Clean the kitchen area

If your building has any kind of kitchen or food preparation area, that is the place to start cleaning. The cleanliness of this space is crucial, so be thorough! It is best to start with the appliances, such as:

  • Fridges
  • Microwaves
  • Stoves
  • Ovens

This will ensure that anywhere food is directly placed will be sanitary.

Next, move to the countertops and sinks. Use disinfectant, and scrub away any grime if necessary. Lastly, clean the insides and outsides of any cabinets.

Step 2: Clean the bathrooms

The bathrooms should be the next priority on your list. Start with the worst part: the toilets. Scrub both the inside and outside of the bowl, and wipe down the back as well. Next, move to the sinks, and then wipe down any mirrors and other surfaces. It’s important to use disinfectant in this process as well, for obvious reasons. Clean any cabinets inside and out.

Step 3: Clean the remaining rooms

The two most important parts are done, but there is still much left to do. You still have to tackle any offices, bedrooms, living rooms, foyers, dens, closets… you get the picture. This is where a cleaning business that specializes in move-in cleaning would come in handy. However, if that is not possible, just be as thorough as you can. Keep the processes for the rooms you have already cleaned in mind. Scrub, wipe, and disinfect as thoroughly as possible.

Step 4: Clean the floors

After all the regular cleaning is done, it’s time to tackle the floors. The order of these two steps in particular is important, as there will be dirt, dust, and debris that settles on the floor from wiping down counters and other surfaces. Cleaning the floors after everything else ensures a thorough and organized process.

The best method for cleaning floors is to first wipe down the baseboards (if present) of the room. Next, sweep and vacuum the flooring and/or carpeting. Lastly, mop the floors, and then allow them to dry.

Step 5: Spot-clean

During the previous cleaning steps, the goal was to clear away the dust and dirt and sanitize surfaces. However, sometimes there will be stains and spots that require special attention to completely remove. In these cases, spot-cleaning is the solution. For scuffs and stains on hard surfaces, try scrubbing with a wet towel or an eraser sponge. For stains and spots on a carpet, try a store-bought carpet stain-remover or a mix of baking soda and vinegar.
