For everyday cleaning, liquid cleaning solutions in a spray bottle come in handy. However, why spend the money on store-bought solutions when you can make your own with household ingredients? Of course, for disinfecting purposes, heavy-duty chemical cleaners will probably work best. But for the other spills, stains, and household messes, you can use a DIY cleaning solution that will make your home spotless.

Distilled vinegar

Vinegar is a classic DIY cleaning solution, especially for light kitchen cleaning. Mix one part water to one part distilled white vinegar in a spray bottle, then use as necessary. The most common use for this solution is cleaning kitchen counters after cooking. Note: Do NOT mix vinegar with bleach, ammonia, or hydrogen peroxide. These combinations can create a toxic gas that can cause death if inhaled.

Dish or castile soap

Soap and water is a great cleaning solution for cutting through grease. You can use any dish soap or a castile soap for this mixture. Use a teaspoon of soap per cup of water in the mix. Just like the vinegar solution, this combination is great for cleaning counters.

Essential oils

Essential oils are the perfect add-in for cleaning solutions. They provide a pleasant scent and some have natural disinfecting qualities. Some common essential oils used in these kinds of solutions are lavender, tea tree, and eucalyptus. However, be careful and do your research before you start using essential oils in your home. Certain essential oils are toxic to pets, and others shouldn’t be around young children. For a DIY cleaning solution recipe, combine 1 and ¾ cups of water, ¼ cup of vinegar, and 30 drops of essential oil.

Lemon juice

Like soap, lemon juice is great for cutting through grease. It is also a great stain remover and glass cleaner. For a glass cleaner, mix a couple tablespoons of lemon juice with a cup of water. For a multipurpose cleaner, visit this link.

Baking soda

Baking soda is a cleaning substance with many uses. It can neutralize odors, cut through grease, remove stains, and much more. While it is most commonly made into a paste with three parts baking soda and one part water, you can also make it into an easy-to-use spray with 1 and 1/2 cups baking soda, 1 and 1/2 cup liquid castile soap, 2 tablespoons white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons water.
